1840 U.S. Federal Census
Written by Kelly Whitelock

The 1840 Federal Census had some interesting additions!  It's asking for Pensioner's from the Revolutionary War and other Military services.  That can lead you to the actual military records that you can request from the National Archives.  This can be a wealth of information.

Also, it asked people if they were Blind, Dumb, Insane or Idiots.  I got a real laugh out of this one because sure, you can see someone admitting-if they aren't dumb- that they are blind.  To admit that, "Yes, as a matter of fact I am Insane and/or an Idiot" really cracked me up!!!  I know that parents and relatives could have given the info. but honestly, what if the insane or idiot person answered the door.  Then what?  LOL!  Oh well, this one does give some new and interesting information and a little laugh too boot.
